Religious Education (RE) Curriculum at Shap CE School
Our RE curriculum is a core strength at Shap CE School, providing an inclusive and reflective environment for spiritual and personal growth. The curriculum is designed to encourage children to explore and understand diverse religious beliefs and worldviews, promoting tolerance, respect, and empathy. Children are actively engaged in learning through well-planned, thought-provoking lessons that foster deep discussions and reflective thinking.
Our recent SIAMS inspection report (2022) commends our RE lessons for inspiring curiosity and a love for learning, as well as developing critical thinking skills that empower students to explore life’s “big questions.” Our teachers’ commitment to delivering high-quality RE education ensures that each student feels valued and respected, enhancing their sense of belonging and moral development.
Through our RE curriculum, we support children in building a foundation of understanding that prepares them for a diverse and interconnected world.
At Shap CE School, we use Understanding Christianity resources to explore key concepts of the Christian faith, including God, Creation, The Fall, People of God, Incarnation, Good News, Salvation, and the Kingdom of God. Alongside Christianity, we study Abrahamic global religions—such as Islam and Judaism—and Dharmic global religions, including Buddhism. We are also introducing Humanism as a non-religious worldview to provide students with a broad perspective. Our curriculum approaches this content through the disciplines of theology, philosophy, and human science, encouraging students to engage deeply and thoughtfully with each worldview.
