British Values

At Shap CE School, we are dedicated to embedding the core British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for those of all faiths and beliefs. These principles are essential for preparing our pupils to thrive in modern Britain. We encourage our pupils to appreciate people from all backgrounds with respect and empathy, understanding that while opinions may differ, every individual is protected under British law.

Ofsted in July 2024 noted: “Pupils behave well and take on leadership roles such as school councillors, play leaders, and mini police, preparing them to become active and successful citizens of modern-day Britain.” Similarly, SIAMS commended our nurturing environment, highlighting that our Christian ethos promotes an inclusive community where “all students feel valued and empowered to flourish.”

These values are reinforced through a variety of activities, including democratic class decision-making, school council elections, and participation in community service initiatives like the Mini Police program. These experiences cultivate pupils' understanding of their community roles, instilling a strong sense of responsibility and fostering positive attitudes toward active citizenship.
